Working Together to Build a Successful Restylement

As more and more people move into their 50’s, and dare we say 60’s, the main question for many is: “When do I want to stop working?”  Most will not quit working just because they have reached some arbitrary age; they will stop when they want to stop.  Imply to a person aged 50-60 (a baby boomer) that they should start slowing down as their usefulness is coming to an end and you might want to watch your behind as you are being tossed out the door.

We believe the same courtesy should be shown to the word retirement.  Why use a term implying that someone is past their “sell-by” date, especially if 60 is now the new 40?  The word retired has become so negatively loaded and implies a lack of activity that one may consider themselves a consultant for the rest of their life in order to get around this negative bias.

With that in mind, we started to think of terms that would better define our client’s lives after their working years; one that would mean to start a new journey or phase in one’s life.  After much thought and discussion, we selected RestylementTo personalize restylement to each one of our clients, we added My.

If you break down the words My Re·style·ment, according to Merriam Webster’s dictionary; My is an adjective and is the possessive form of I, meaning - of or relating to me or myself especially as possessor, agent, object of an action, or familiar person.  Reis a prefix that means - again; anew: rebuild. Style is defined as – a distinctive manner of expression or custom of behaving or conducting oneself in a particular mode of living; and ment– is a suffix that means - concrete result, object, or agent of a specified action.

Now that we have the dictionary meaning of My Restylement, our goal was to come up with a “real” definition:  My Re·style·ment  (mî rĭ stîl'ment) n.  1.  The period in one’s life when one leaves their job and transitions from accumulating to drawing down on their assets.  2.  Start of the third phase of life; one’s lifestyle and amount of assets will determine when and how restylement can start, not one’s age.  3.  One will continue to work part-time or volunteer, but only in a field of interest that provides enjoyment.

We believe to experience True Success during your Restylement  you need to take control of your financial future now.  Since True Success can mean different things to different people, we have defined True Success  as:
